Ron, Queensland has pleural mesothelioma, diagnosed 14 months ago. Has had 13 doses of chemotherapy that unfortunately did not work. He is now on Keytruda and up to no. 3 infusion. Recently he had a scan and it showed his mesothelioma tumours have not increased whilst being on Keytruda, so Keytruda is working to stabilise, give quality of life and hopefully shrinkage. As Keytruda is only on the Australian PBS for Melanoma cancer, Ron has to pay $7,150 for every second Keytruda infusion. Why are we being forced to pay for life saving treatment such as Keytruda when we have no other option. The alternative is to die as Keytruda is given after every other option has been tried. MSD (Merck), TGA, PBAC and our Health Minister Sussan Ley needs to understand we do not have a choice here! We do not have time to waste! So for Mesothelioma and 31 other rare cancers that Keytruda is showing promise for, I beg MSD, TGA, PBAC and our health minister to show empathy and ACT now to fast track Keytruda on to our Australian PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme).
