Matt aged 38 years died of Mesothelioma after a battle of only 21 months. He leaves behind his beautiful wife and 2 little children.
(Matt's mother in law has written a few words about his story below):
'Matt wasn't well for a couple of years before he was diagnosed in that he had a "sore shoulder from playing too much tennis, had a cough but just had a touch of flu"---typical bush male---despite great care from all at the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, chemotherapy, lung removal in Sydney etc he didn't stand a chance--I had actually heard of this drug doing marvels with Melanoma patients but hadn't realised it might do the same for Mesothelioma sufferers.
Sadly Matt died only 21 months after his diagnosis and our daughter is left to bring up two little boys but at least she has a loving supportive family to help - and Matt's parents, though very elderly just adore her and the boys. But they have to contend with the awful drought up there, and there are so many other people suffering from this dreadful illness today---
I'm not sure if this drug would have helped Matt but he still, like everyone else, should have had the right to be able to afford it! Why are peoples lives placed in jeopardy by some nameless bureaucrats in ivory Towers?'
