This weekend is the March For Our Lives. You can find a March in your part of the country. I encourage you all to go. If you feel so moved, please print and distribute this flier that has the main lines of our argument and a way to sign our petition. Edit as you see fit!
I have done what I can think of to share our petition with the organizers of this march and other leaders and organizations calling for "Change Now."
A nationwide pledge by teachers would lend a lot of force to the demand for immediate change. Educators are a daunting opposition to face. Recent experience has shown us all that schools shutting down is a disaster, and no one in congress can deny this. This gives us strong leverage in the push for gun safety laws and measures.
As of right now we are 300 signatures strong -- and I thank each and every one of you for your support -- but this is just a beginning. We need momentum to the garner wider support, of the sort that will make make us news-worthy and ultimately give us the numbers we need to have true negotiating muscle.
Hope to see some of you marching tomorrow. Let's keep fighting and getting the word out. You cannot tweet or share the petition too many times!
Let's do what we can to ensure that our students return to school in a safer country.
