Petition update

500,000 signatures and a giant step closer to our goal.

Mar 19, 2020 —

Many, many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to support, sign and share this extremely important petition.  We have just surpassed the 500,000 mark which is absolutely outstanding!

I wanted to take a moment to let you know that because of your support our petition has garnered the attention of many major news sources.  We've been featured not only in print but also on national and local television and interest keeps on rolling in.

Yesterday the federal government spoke to billions of dollars in relief for Canadians but absolutely nothing is guaranteed or accessible in the immediate or near future.  Major banks offered to defer mortgages but there are still no guarantees offered to tenants and we are still extremely vulnerable. We're continuing to push the provincial government to suspend rent payments during the Covid-19 pandemic and provide direct subsidies to compensate for these suspensions.

Canadian's deserve the support needed to safely isolate ourselves and hinder the spread of Covid-19.  We're going to keep campaigning until the provincial government recognizes that the only way to do this is to suspend rent payments.

Many thanks again for your continued support.  If you can, please continue to share the petition as much as possible.

We live in a society, not an economy.

Joe Rutherford
