Mount Glen Rock is a commodity of natural significance. 
It's unique Environment and Wildlife habitats deserve respect and protection, with a sustainable, long-term vision.

Care4esK met with the Somerset Regional Council earlier this year in April, and again in May.

On each occasion SRC was presented with Care4esK's alternate plan for the development and future use of Mount Glen Rock, along with further ideas to benefit the Esk township.

Care4esK members left the May meeting with the understanding that the next steps for Mount Glen Rock are Cultural Surveys, Environmental Assessments and Targeted Threatened Species Surveys.

Last week SRC indicated that they are now considering some of Care4esK's suggestions for the Mountain...

Cultural and Environmental Education and Avi-tourism (Birdwatching).

This is promising news, given that these lucrative, fast-growing sectors of the Tourism market were not mentioned in the original Mount Glen Rock Adventure Park Master Plan Draft.

Have we turned a corner?

There is still quite a list of Adventure type activities also being considered. Along with the predominant Mountain Bike trails, Rock Climbing and Abseiling, activities such as Orienteering and Rogaining are also being considered.

The majority of the 28kms of trails on the map above are exclusively for Mountain bikes only, with only 1km of trail solely for walkers. Therefore, with both Orienteering and Rogaining requiring trails for these competitive types of recreation, does this then mean that even more trails over Mount Glen Rock will need to be included in the SRC final plan?

Care4esK firmly believes that the upcoming 'Ground Truthing', (when Environmental and Threatened Species Surveys are undertaken), it will indicate that Mount Glen Rock is indeed abundantly inhabited by various Endangered and otherwise Threatened Species of Flora and Fauna, much too precious to interfere with.

Care4esK also believe it will be revealed that the Ecology of the Mountain will be far too unique and sensitive, to construct the 'Maze of Madness' illustrated above.
