We just passed 12,000 signatures!
But the FCC still has not updated their pledge. Instead, on Friday they issued a press release praising the internet providers for every little thing they did but failing to hold them accountable by updating the Keep Americans Connected Pledge.
Meanwhile, millions of low-income students literally cannot go to school.
Dirk Tillotson puts it plain: “If you cannot get online, you are basically locked out of school.”
This is a simple thing the FCC can do right now. It won’t solve all the problems for getting kids learning online—they still need devices and good instruction. But it’s an easy place to start.
It’s like Zach Wright points out:
“All 50 states mandate public education in their state constitutions. During our COVID-19 world, education has become largely virtual. In order to access resources, classrooms, updates, and basically any type of communication or instructional learning, access to the internet is absolutely essential.”
