My name is Carol Lynn Major. I was fortunate to grow up in a loving family from
Southern California with a mom who was the smartest and sweetest woman in my life.
I missed her delicious muffins every time I was away from home.
I have a beautiful sister, my best friend with whom I explored the world and undertook many
adventures together. Being so close to my dad, I had a conversation with him almost
everyday and he knew all about me and my friends.
3 years before the tragic accident, I joined Apple as an engineer and was appointed as
Technical Program Manager. I was honored to be a part of the iPhone 11 development
team that put a lot of time and effort on this project, travelling between the US and China
for years.

Just 2 weeks before launch of iPhone 11, our team celebrated the completion of this project
and the iPhone 11 was officially in production.
At about 1:20 am on August 25th, 2019, I was at the backseat of a rideshare vehicle.
It was only a few blocks to my place as the driver was turning left, another vehicle ran
through the red light into our car.
Caught unaware with no warning sign or any police siren sound, I was directly hit
It was so severe that I didn’t even have a chance to say goodbye.

Yes, in everybody’s opinion I was unlucky and this accident couldn’t have been
prevented
IT WASN’T TRUE!

The truth was, a suspect started running away from the police pursuit, approximately
2.2 miles or 7 minutes away. Had I received an alert on my phone just a few seconds
earlier, the accident could have been averted and I might have been alive today.

We already have the other emergency alerts like Amber Alert, Weather Alert, President alert
but we do not have any alert for unsafe driving.

The unsafe driving condition could be, a hi-speed police pursuit, a recent accident which no
police yet at the scene or other road hazards which potentially are harmful.
All the drivers, passengers and pedestrians nearby deserve to be alert as soon as possible
to prevent any consequent accident.

How will this ALERT save life?
On receiving an ALERT, drivers will be aware of what’s going on and be cautious such as
avoiding any turn or changing a lane while hi-speed chases in action. Other pedestrians and
other passersby must stay away from the road as much as possible.
This will also make it easier for the law enforcement to pursue a suspect or any problem.
The right to be safe is a basic human right.
