FBI: Restore "Law Enforcement" to Mission Statement

FBI: Restore "Law Enforcement" to Mission Statement
The Issue
On behalf of the American people, the following individuals in this petition call upon the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and its management in the U.S. Department of Justice and the President of the United States, to restore the term "law enforcement" to the publicly stated mission of the FBI.
Between June 18 and June 21, 2017, under FBI Acting Director Andrew McCabe's administration of the FBI, the term "law enforcement" was removed from the FBI's public mission statement at:
https://www.fbi.gov/about/mission
The FBI was founded and created as a law enforcement investigatory body. Its commitment to law enforcement, rather than simply "security," "national security," "intelligence," or the vague term "combating crime" is not a parallel to the American imperative for "law enforcement." A nation of laws, and a nation that respects equality under the law, must not lose a central justice organization's commitment to law enforcement as a mission goal and value necessary for the equal treatment under the law of ALL Americans - not just those we like and those like us - but ALL.
We call upon the FBI to make this correction to its public mission statement to return "law enforcement" as part of its mission, consistent with the primary role of the Department of Justice to "enforce the law," and in accordance with the FBI powers described by law under 18 U.S. Code § 3052. If the FBI is unwilling or unable make such a correction, we call upon the Department of Justice's Attorney General or his designate to make such a correction. If the Department of Justice is unwilling or unable to make such a correction, we call upon the President of the United States to order such a correction to restore "law enforcement" to the public mission statement of the FBI.
