Federal Agencies: Present a National Plan to Address Alcohol-Linked Cancer Deaths

The Issue

A new study has confirmed that alcohol-related cancer deaths in the U.S. have doubled — yet there is no coordinated federal plan to address the growing health crisis.

Alcohol is now known to be a major risk factor for at least seven types of cancer, including breast, liver, esophageal, and colorectal cancer. And while the science is clear, the public is still left in the dark:

No national warning labels exist on alcohol products
No government-led awareness campaigns are educating the public about alcohol and cancer
No clear federal plan has been introduced to curb alcohol-linked deaths

We call on the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to present a clear national action plan to address rising cancer deaths linked to alcohol.

The public has a right to know the risks — and the government has a responsibility to respond to them.
