Dear Friends of Markham Hill,
I've started a GoFundMe fundraiser called 'Save Markham Hill' to raise money to help pay for the lawyer fees in our effort to appeal the City Council's rezoning of Markham Hill for Specialized Real Estate Group's high-density residential and commercial development. We would like to appeal to the Washington County Circuit Court to convert the zoning back to how it was. Our lawyers are West Doss and Alex Shirley of Doss Law Firm. Rob Karas and I have been paying them up to this point and will continue donating to the cause as time goes on. But we need help from the community who also want to save Markham Hill, Fayetteville history, older neighborhoods, urban forests, natural habitat, and the environment.
If we win the appeal (keep praying or sending positive vibes), we hope that the current owner of the 144 acres of Markham Hill, RMD Properties, will decide to sell (at a reasonable price) to the City of Fayetteville, a conservationist, or a conservation group in order to permanently protect Markham Hill from development and make it a conservation easement. We would like it to remain a nature and wildlife preserve.
Please consider supporting our effort financially. More details are in the GoFundMe 'Save Markham Hill' description. If you donate by credit card online, when it asks for a GoFundMe tip, click Other and type whatever you want. (I give them $5 whenever I donate, no matter how much.)
If you would like to donate by check, please make your check out to 'Friends of Markham Hill' and give it to me or Rob Karas. Or I can drive by and pick it up (if you live in Fayetteville). Or you can mail it to me at:
