Letters for rezoning: 22 short form letters generated by the developer's website about their Markham Hill development plans
Conclusion:
Please send more letters against the rezoning. Address them to the City Council and send them to the City Clerk at ssmith@fayetteville-ar.gov. We need to talk about the many reasons for not rezoning: saves 94 acres (east half of mountain plus some of west side), develops 50 acres (west side of mountain next to the interstate highway). If rezoned: saves 44 acres (on far west), develops 100 acres (on top of mountain and next to surrounding neighborhoods). The rezoning creates a very commercialized and high density residential community in the middle of our wooded rural residential neighborhood. The rezoning destroys more trees and natural habitat. It can remove the Arkansas Register of Historical Places on the 46 acre Markham Camp and the National Register of Historical Places on Evangeline Archer's cabin. The rezoning would destroy the unsurveyed Native American sites. We are trying to save as much of Markham Hill as possible. And praying we eventually are able to make what we can save a nature and wildlife preserve. But the letters at this time need to focus on the inappropriateness and harm of this development on the top and sides of a mountain surrounded by RSF-4 zonings (typical lower density residential zoning with a maximum of four units per acre). The properties surrounding Markham Hill have one house per 1-5 or more acres. The rezoning will cause road, traffic, water, air, flooding, pollution, etc. problems. Thank you for writing more letters! We can do this!
The next City Council meeting to decide on the future of Markham Hill is Oct 2. Please send your letters soon. And come to the City Council meeting also. We need your presence and your voice!
Sincerely,
