When you think of the word sweatshops, you probably think of unfair wages, awful working conditions, and little to no pay. You also might think of these being in undeveloped countries across the world. Although this is true, the sad part is that these sweatshops are located in our country as well, you just might not know it. 

Fashion Nova has become a large fashion company mainly because of celebrities and influencers posting their brand on social media. Although these clothes may look expensive, they are made cheap. This brand takes celebrity fashion looks, and recreates them but cheaply.  The headquarters of Fashion Nova is located in Los Angeles, California, and so are their sweatshops. 

As stated by the New York Times, workers like Ms. Cortes worked every day but she said her pay was based on how many clothes she could make and how fast. “On average, she earned $270 in a week, the equivalent of $4.66 an hour” (Manskar). Aside from the low wages, the working conditions were unfair. Ms. Cortes states that “There were cockroaches. There were rats,” she said. “The conditions weren’t good.”  It is sad that sweatshops exist in general, but as United States citizens, we need to eliminate the Fashion Nova sweatshops located in our home country.
