Good morning!
Many of you may have already seen the news yesterday, but if you missed it - BIG NEWS! Canadian grocery giant Sobeys (owner of the Farm Boy chain) has announced plans to eliminate plastic bags from all their stores by the end of January 2020 and apparently this is "the first step in "removing unnecessary plastic from all retail."
We certainly hope this is true and are thrilled to hear that they are moving in the right direction. Take a look at the attached news article. This is a great start (finally!), but we know they can do even better!
This announcement is most definitely due to the significant pressure Canadian grocery chains are feeling from the public due to petitions like this one, recent journalism and consumer feedback - yay!
Let's keep up the pressure from consumers on our favourite Ontario grocer, Farm Boy.
Thanks for all that you have done and continue to do to share this petition, speak to your friends and family about the problems of single-use plastic and with your personal actions. It matters!
