This is My Darling husband many know as Dal, A loving father of three daughters and a new grandson, A loyal friend and family man. Darren was just 40 years old when he collapsed at home following a major stroke. He was admitted to intensive care, fighting for his life, with left paralysis and unable to swallow or talk. This October our life’s changed forever, my hardworking, family loving and active husband came home after a night shift and collapsed with a basilar tip thrombosis. There is no history of atrial fibrillation and he was always fit and well. The cause of this life threatening stroke was linked back to his consumption of energy drinks - in particular Monster drinks he used to drink in the thought it would give him energy to work his nights when in fact put his heart into atrial fibrillation forming a clot that traveled to his brain had we known the risks of these drinks my husband would have never drank them!!!

Now we know!!!

Energy drinks are known to have potential adverse effects on health including an increased risk of cardiovascular events and stroke. A study published in the Journal of American Heart Association found that consuming 32 ounces (about two cans) of an energy drink can result in more profound changes in the heart's electrical activity compared to caffeine alone (Fletcher et al., 2017). Yet these beverages continue being sold without any caution labels stating these risks.

There is lots of evidence that links these energy drinks to adverse events however they still come with no warning label to say can cause stroke!!!

We believe it is essential for consumers to be made aware of these potential dangers before they choose to consume such products. Therefore we call upon our legislators and regulatory bodies to mandate warning labels on all energy drinks highlighting their potential health risks.
