Family Law Reform: Stability, Education and Equal Parenting for All Children

The issue

Every child deserves the best opportunities in life — stability, access to good education, and the love and time of both parents. Yet today, too many children are denied these chances because of outdated systems, money-driven disputes, and prolonged legal battles. We call for urgent reforms to make the system child-focused, fair, and efficient.

I am a proud and committed parent. Like many others, I have faced unnecessary obstacles in trying to secure equal time and the best education for my child. Despite being fully willing to take responsibility for costs, including offering to pay private school fees entirely myself, the system allowed financial interests and aggressive legal tactics to stand in the way of my child’s opportunities.

This is not just my story — it is the story of thousands of families across Australia. Parents who are willing and able to give their children more are blocked by:

Unfair financial disputes – where voluntary support commitments are ignored or manipulated, leaving children forced into lesser opportunities.

Unequal parenting time – where one parent resists sharing equal care, not because of the child’s needs, but because of money or control.

Lawyers’ pressure tactics – where legal representatives encourage unnecessary conflict and prolong cases, driving up costs rather than helping parents resolve matters.

Delays in the Court system – where cases drag on for years, causing children to miss critical windows for kindergarten, schooling, and stability.

Our Demands:

We call on the Australian Government to:

1. Prioritise the child’s best interests above financial disputes. No child should miss out on quality education or time with a parent because of money-driven tactics.

2. Create an independent Family Law Review Panel – with a fixed, shared cost between both parents – empowered to deliver fast, binding decisions within 1–2 months, so children don’t lose years of opportunities.

3. Ban aggressive cost-threat tactics by lawyers and hold legal representatives accountable if they advise poorly or mislead parents into prolonged disputes.

4. Strengthen equal-time parenting as a starting point where both parents are fit and willing, ensuring children have strong, ongoing relationships with both families.

5. Ensure education stability by allowing parents who can and will fully support private schooling (without burdening the other parent) to do so, so children are not forced into lower opportunities due to financial manoeuvring.

Why This Matters:

This petition is not just for fathers or mothers — it is for children. Every child deserves stability, good education, and love from both parents without being caught in adult financial conflicts. Every committed parent deserves to be heard without wasting years and thousands of dollars in legal costs.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for children’s futures. You are demanding a system that puts kids first, supports fairness for both parents, and holds professionals accountable when they inflame disputes rather than resolve them.
