Family-Court Due Process & Conflict-of-Interest Reform

Family-Court Due Process & Conflict-of-Interest Reform
The Issue
Problem Statement: Pennsylvania’s family courts often fail to protect children and families. Parents may be silenced, evidence ignored, or life-changing custody decisions made in private. Judicial bias and conflicts of interest—such as prior relationships with attorneys—can compromise fairness, leaving children and families vulnerable. Proposal / Demands: 1. Guarantee due process in all custody proceedings. Parents must have the opportunity to present evidence and be heard. 2. Hold judges accountable when they bypass relocation laws, ignore conflicts of interest, or compromise child safety. 3. Implement oversight mechanisms to identify and manage conflicts of interest. 4. Prioritize the child’s safety, stability, and well-being in every custody decision. 5. Protect children from being relocated or placed in unsafe environments without proper oversight. 6. Introduce a jury system for custody conferences, providing impartial review and transparency in critical decisions. 7. Prevent systemic trauma from mismanagement, backdoor decisions, or silencing parents. Goal / Vision: A Pennsylvania family court system that is transparent, impartial, child-centered, and accountable to the public. Call to Action: Sign and share to demand reforms that guarantee fairness, accountability, and protection for children and families.
