Open MPUSD schools to reopen for in-person full time instruction for fall 2021!

The Issue

Monterey Peninsula Unified School District has not offered in-person instruction for students in over a year, even when public health officials deem it is safe. This places the majority of students at an educational, and emotional social disadvantage.

School closures hit all families but particularly low-income, children with disabilities, and children from working families. This has only widened the achievement gap and created additional physical, developmental and emotional struggles

Private schools within our county are open for in-person instruction, increasing pre-pandemic equity challenges. Schools across our nation and all over the world are open for in-person instruction as well.

The obstruction to opening schools is no longer about the safety of students and staff. Current scientific research and data suggests that schools can open safely. Doctors and health professionals on the front lines are also calling for schools to reopen and sharing their professional stance that there is real harm that closures are having on kids.

Join us now in demanding that all schools in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (TK-12) open for full-time in-person instruction as soon as permitted by public health authorities. Our leaders must back us up and acknowledge that students our children deserve access to high quality, in-person instruction, regardless of economic circumstances or where they live.
