The Issue

Hijabs, turbans, kippahs, and crosses - under Quebec's Bill-21, all these articles, alongside any clothing with religious affiliation, are prohibited from public use.

Bill-21, (also known as An Act respecting the Laicity of the State), was enacted by the Quebec National Assembly in June 2019. This controversial law prohibits public sector employees, including teachers, police officers, and government workers, from wearing religious symbols while performing their duties. For many people, wearing a religious article is more than an act of faith: it is an integral part of their identity, a symbol of safety, freedom, and spiritual connection.

Bill-21 has worsened intolerance towards already marginalized religious communities and minorities. The bill further threatens both the multicultural fabric that is the foundation of Canadian society, and opposes section 2(a) of the Canadian Charter on Religious Freedom.

Collective change begins with awareness. By signing this petition, you can help gather public support and push for the repeal of Bill-21.

Faith is not a crime, and Canada's strength lies in its diversity - so let's protect it.
