Action Alert: CDO needs your voice & stories/experiences!

The College of Dietitians of Ontario (CDO) just sent registrants a survey on the proposed scope of practice expansion — specifically about dietitians' authority to order lab tests and prescribe/dispense nutrition-related therapies.

This is a real chance to move the needle. In CDO's last registrant survey, over 90% of RDs supported scope expansion — now WE need to give  the Ministry of Health evidence to back it up.

Two things you can do right now:

1️⃣ Check your inbox for the CDO email titled "Proposed Scope of Practice Expansion Survey" (sent August 2026) and complete it — takes about 20 minutes. Deadline: Monday, August 31.

2️⃣ Email your story to practiceadvisor@collegeofdietitians.org — even if you don't currently order labs or therapies, your experience with delayed referrals, care gaps, or scope limitations still matters. Tell them what you see in practice: patients waiting years for diagnosis, redundant lab access barriers, gaps in unattached-patient care — whatever you're living day to day.

Fill out the survey and help to remind another RD today (our email boxes are full and it can get missed)! The more voices & stories, the better! 

A larger scope means taking up more space in the medical system formally/legally.  Expanding our scope can help us do our work better, serve our clients and communities effectively & create value awareness of our profession beyond our own choir. 

The more of us who speak up, the stronger the evidence base for change. Don't assume someone else will fill it out — they're counting numbers and  stories - and need you to report them (CDO needs this data to advocate for us)!
