For example, my story: even thinking about the "Hipster Hitler" page which was eventually removed, I still ask:
1) Who would think that Hitler and the Nazis were "hipster" ("cool", "hip")?
2) Who would want to insult Holocaust survivors and victims, and their families (both close and distant relatives)? Besides, some of us and/or ancestors have done and/or did things to them of which we should not be proud (For example, despite my family's adamant revisionist historicizing, I am ashamed that my dad's maternal grandma denied her cousins help during the Holocaust.). Do we need Facebook to add more insults to literal insults and injuries that were inflicted on Holocaust victims and survivors, and their families?
3) Would anyone be okay with a, e.g., "Kool KKK" page? Sadly, by the way, I'm sure that a page with that name or a similar name is already on Facebook. There's already a "N***as be Like" page. In any case, nonetheless, why is a "Hipster Hitler" page okay? Unfortunately, might I add, I'm guessing that it was probably recreated after Facebook removed it.
Hate pages on Facebook are not just Facebook TOS violations. They are social-media expressions of racist, sexist, and other condemnable and otherwise-unacceptable sentiments which can affect people to harm others. After all, "Mein Kampf" influenced the Germans to commit ethnocide against at least 6,000,000 Jews; and "The Protocols Of the Elders of Zion" influenced Russians to allow what happened during the pogroms continue during the days of the Gulags. People eventually found a way to put the Anti-Semitic books online, and the same people who put offline hate speech online will have no problem creating and continuing it online.
