I am starting this potition to stop selling groups from posting potentially harmful adverts. Such as -

  • Fad diets
  • Miracle weight loss programs
  • Meal supplements
  • Diet pills
  • Idealistic body types

I see atleast 3 of these adverts a day on Facebook, promoting unhealthy, unsustainable diet hacks to get that unrealistic body everyone wants.

Facebook have actually already prohibited adverts such as this, so WHY are they still appearing?!? (link below 1.)

I know people are going to say "Unfollow the group", yeah I could do that but I'd rather say something. All groups, pages and selling pages have a social responsibility. Adverts like this might not bother you.... But for others they could encourage harmful habits, trigger or even start an eating disorder.

Eating disorders do not discriminate, anyone can have one. Anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder or EDNOS. Approximately 44.53 million peolpe use Facebook in the UK (2) It could happen to anyone.

'Aound 1.25 million people have eating disorders in the UK' (3). 'Research suggests that this number vastly underestimates the true size of the problem, suggesting that up to 80% of individuals who screen positively for having an eating disorder have never accessed help or support' (4).

Don't think it's that bad? 'Eating disorders have the highest mortality rates among psychiatric disorders' (5). 'Eating disorders cost the UK economy £15 billion each year' (6).

Facebook needs to enforce their policies.
