Flight Path FactsUnited States
Dec 3, 2016
On December 2, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo submitted a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration recommending the creation of a NEW NextGen flight path - 180+ airplanes per day - concentrated over Santa Cruz, San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley, Bonny Doon and the Summit north of Boulder Creek in Santa Cruz County. This bad decision also impacts our neighbors in Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, and Monterey County. In order to arrive at the decision, Eshoo, along with Congressman Sam Farr and Congresswoman Jackie Speier convened a Select Committee of representatives from the SFO Roundtable, Santa Cruz County, Santa Clara County, and San Mateo County. Prior to the formation of the committee, and in order to achieve a predetermined outcome, Eshoo, Farr, and the SFO Roundtable gave direction to the FAA to shift the flight path to our communities. Sadly, 8 out of 12 Select Committee members followed their lead. Eshoo is now urging the FAA to create a new NextGen path. How did this happen? Residents (yes, laypeople) under a low, loud, concentrated NextGen path called SERFR to the east, designed a new path called DAVYJ over our communities in order to find relief from their jet noise. During the Select Committee hearings, the FAA admitted that they were told by Congress (Eshoo, Farr, and Speier) that DAVYJ came from "the community" - that the proposal was derived from an authentic community process. It was not. Contact these representatives, and others in your area, and let them know that you do NOT support a NEW NextGen flight path over our communities, that we we did not have a seat at the table, and that shifting flight paths from one community to another is not a rational way to solve jet noise. ryan.coonerty@santacruzcounty.us bruce.mcpherson@santacruzcounty.us zach.friend@santacruzcounty.us greg.caput@santacruzcounty.us CA18AEima@mail.house.gov scott.ammon@mail.house.gov karen.chapman@mail.house.gov jimmypanettaforcongress@gmail.com citycouncil@cityofsantacruz.com jimreedSV@gmail.com seajems@pacbell.net rlj12@comcast.net dlindslind@earthlink.net
