The Dutch Kennelclub has issued a statement concerning the World Dog Show in China last week. See attachment (in Dutch).
I understand you might not be able to read the whole document as it is in Dutch. I’ve made a very short summary for you. Please be advised that this is a very abbreviated version.
a) Regarding the procedure – there is a bi annual meeting (every two year) in which 60 – 90 kennelclubs participate. Countries which want to host the World dog show can give a presentation. Subsequently there is a voting session. China got the majority of the votes.
b) Dutch vote – The representative of the Dutch kennelclub has chosen for Germany.
c) Our position/point of view – We are against the consumption of dogs and any form of dog cruelty.
d) Next steps – the Dutch Kennelclub respects the democratic made choice for China in the bi annual meeting. If it should be changed it should be on the agenda in 2017 to discuss in the meeting. Furthermore we have written the Chines ambassador a stern letter (see attachment) about the issues in the province of Guangxi. We are willing to lend our expertise and skill to help the Chinese kennelclub to educate and create awareness.
Kind regards,
