We have become a corporate sponsor for a UCL research grant proposal investigating the feasibility and cost benefit analysis, including environmental costs, of a UK wide network of industrial compost facilities to tackle all bioplastics and compostable absorbent hygiene products (AHP). 

If granted this project will take 2 years and will lay out the blueprint for the UK’s solution to this growing issue. 

Numerous research projects and tests for bioplastic and AHP composting at mass scale are currently underway in Germany, Belgium, and the USA. The UK is a little behind the curve. Theses studies have shown that the composting of bioplastics will be feasible as soon as the commercial volumes and sales increased sufficiently enough to cover the investments required.
