There have been reports of a drone being flown in Colonel Samuel Smith Park within 4 meters of wildlife causing it to flee. Drones do not belong here. Winter is stressful enough for wildlife, they don't need the added harassment of being chased by a drone. Colonel Samuel Smith Park is an oasis for wildlife with much of the park being an Environmentally Significant Area and a formal bird sanctuary. We need to protect the inhabitants of the park from unnecessary stress. 

Unfortunately, the park does not have the resources to police people using drones, ensuring they are doing so responsibly. Extending the existing No Fly zone a few blocks is the simplest solution. 

Please sign this petition asking for Colonel Samuel Smith Park to become a No Fly Zone for drones. We need to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.
The City's web page titled "Park & Trail Rules & Etiquette" states, "Drones are popular for many photography and videography enthusiasts and professionals; however, they pose a risk and can disturb wildlife and visitors. All city parks are “no drone zones” for recreational use. Please leave your drone at home." but the actual bylaw doesn't mention drones. It does mention hot air balloons, hang gliders, ultra-light aircraft, model aircraft, and kites - but not drones. Time for an update!
