Taxi drivers and businesses in need of new electric vehicle plates are being negatively impacted by the recent 30-day deadline requirement announced by the Taxi Limousine Commission (TLC).

The limited availability of electric vehicles and the extended waiting period for car manufacturers to produce them means that obtaining an EV within the given timeframe is nearly impossible. With only 400 plates available, the strict deadline could lead to a disadvantage for applicants, as well as a hindrance to creating a sustainable transportation system.

Immediate action is necessary to amend the 30-day requirement for obtaining an EV for the new 400 plates. Extending the deadline to a more reasonable timeframe, such as 90-120 days, would give applicants ample time to acquire an EV that meets their needs and will benefit the TLC in the long term by promoting sustainability. We urge the TLC to consider our petition and take prompt action.
