There's been some positive news this week regarding the potential future expansion of the Blackpool Tramway. Transport for the North, a new sub-regional transport body, is undertaking a consultation with regards to their draft Strategic Transport Plan, and in both Lancashire County Council and the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership's responses, the following paragraph appears: "Despite the ongoing investment in the modernisation and electrification of the railway line between Preston and Blackpool, the wider rail network serving the Fylde Coast and Morecambe/Heysham will remain an underutilised asset without further investment in infrastructure and services. There may be opportunities for integration with the Blackpool Tramway, for example, in the South Fylde and the Fleetwood area, complementing committed investment through the Lancashire Growth Deal that will deliver an extension of the tramway from the Promenade to Blackpool North station by mid 2019. Seamless interchange between the rail network and tram system will be achieved for the first time to the benefit of both residents and visitors." Of course this is welcome news for those who have signed this petition (and those who support tram investment in the Fleetwood area), but collectively we need to ensure that these 'opportunities' are realised. We therefore ask our supporters to continue writing to the decision makers (Blackpool Council, Lancashire County Council, Fylde Council and your local MP) to reinforce why this scheme would benefit both you and the wider Fylde Coast. The more people show support, the more likely the project will progress. Trams to Lytham are also advancing plans to submit this petition to the decision makers in the near future, alongside a report which will outline the case for an extension to Lytham and St Anne's. Thank you once again for your support and please keep up the pressure by signing, sharing and contacting those who can make this happen. Trams to Lytham.
