Extend Sandra's Lease and Prevent Her Unjust Eviction

The Issue

Sandra BarMcQ, a respected, long-standing member of our community and a reliable tenant for seven years, now faces an uncertain future due to an unmerited lease termination. She has always met her obligations, paying rent on time throughout her occupancy, demonstrating her dedication and commitment to a home she values. Despite her impeccable tenant history, our community member has been granted a mere two-month extension to find a new home. This time is significantly inadequate considering local housing waitlists stretch up to 24 months.

Compounding her plight, the property company initiated disruptive construction operations, tearing up the driveway and hence restricting her access. This not only hindered her ongoing search for affordable housing but also encroached upon her rights as a tenant.

The property owner, Jerry Acosta and Purple Mountain Realty (575-649-5633) have a responsibility to treat their tenants fairly. We strongly urge them to reconsider their decision, grant Sandra an extension, and allow her the essential time required to secure other housing arrangements. With local housing waitlists up to two years, observing fairness is not just a noble act, but also a testament to the lived experiences of individuals and communities across our city.

This petition isn't just about Sandy. It encapsulates a wider issue that affects many of our long-term community residents. Unchecked displacements pose a threat to our communal stability and raise questions about our commitment to basic housing rights and fairness.

Stand with Sandy. Advocate for housing rights, fairness and community stability. Sign this petition today to demand an extension on Sandra's lease and prevent her unjust displacement. We must ensure our community member is given fair treatment and the time she rightly deserves to secure a new home. Remember, your signature can make a world of difference.
