Extend H1B grace period

Extend H1B grace period
The Issue
The US economic conditions are quickly evolving and many companies in the tech sector are going through substantial layoffs. This is leading to an influx of H1B holders entering unemployment. The current 60 day grace period to find another role is stressful enough in normal times, but in these uncertain times it is restrictively short.
We would like USCIS (or an appropriate government agency) to extend the grace period substantially to allow these productive members of society to continue residing in the US and search for new roles. This would be a win for these immigrants and a win for the US, a nation of immigrants. Specifically, we would like the adjustment of CFR 214.1(l)(2), as codified in 2016.
We ask the government to move quickly. If we allow those who were let go to leave there is a strong possibility they will never return and our nation will lose standing as a destination for immigration.
