Extend Family and Medical Leave to 52 Weeks for Cancer

Extend Family and Medical Leave to 52 Weeks for Cancer
The Issue
12 weeks is not enough for cancer.
While still receiving chemotherapy, I returned to work—afraid of losing my job and my health insurance.
Cancer treatment lasts months. Sometimes a year or more.
Yet the current Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) only provides only 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave, forcing patients to return before they are medically ready—or risk losing everything.
No one fighting cancer should have to choose between:
- Completing treatment
- Keeping their job
- Keeping their health insurance
I am calling for 52 weeks of job-protected medical leave for cancer patients and caregivers.
Surviving cancer should not come at the cost of your career.
If you agree, support extending FMLA to 52 weeks.
Cancer patients deserve time to heal—without punishment.
