Refugees from Ukraine, seeking asylum in Spain due to the cruel war started by russia in our homeland, are thankful for the temporary protection, which we are getting from the Spanish Government. However, since many of us have taken some belongings from our homes and arrived to the EU in our own cars, we would like to ask for an extension of the time allowed for the use of Ukrainian license plates, till the end of temporary protection or end of the war, whichever comes sooner.

We believe that the necessity to spend the money (so much needed by the temporarily displaced people under these exceptional conditions) on vehicle re-registration is not justified, because most of us plan to return home when it gets safe, that is why the vehicle is brought in to the EU territory only temporarily. More so, the necessity to do a reverse customs clearance upon return to Ukraine further complicates refugees’ lives and increases the financial burden.

We ask Spanish Government to follow the examples of Poland and Germany and extend the time allowed for the use of Ukrainian license plates, till the end of temporary protection or end of the war.
