The Issue

Hi there!  Recently, Malaysia reactivated its MM2H program, a residential visa that allowed holders to come and go into Malaysia within the 10 year term without much restrictions.  I won't go into the specifics of the current program but you can look up quite easily on the internet or Youtube.

Here are the general issues with the reworked policy:

1) This is the biggest issue:  penalizes current MM2H participants by requiring them to adhere to the new rules even though they were promised under the terms of the program when they signed that they would be able to renew AT THE ORIGINAL TERMS.  The new program now completely changes that, requiring new and existing participants to have to adhere to dramatically increased financial and other conditional rules that make the program not only extremely undesirable but probably undoable for most retirees.  By doing this, the Malaysian government is upending folks who may have made tremendous sacrifices and life changing measures to come to Malaysia in good faith.  By doing this, the Malaysian government can no longer be trusted...for anything, and that would be a real blackeye for Malaysia which we do want to prevent. We all love Malaysia, period.

2)  The sum of the new 10 conditions just make the new MM2H program very undesirable as the minimum requirements, both financial and otherwise, are dramatically higher to do if not impossible for most folks interested in this residential visa to Malaysia.  People will now look to other options and Malaysia will lose out on all of that potentially.

My hope by proposing this petition is to simply show/tell the Malaysian government departments that they need to revise the 2.0 program to something reasonable. That's it .  I understand why the Malaysian government wants to re-up the program conditions but it will backfire on it when enrollment declines substantially from both the current participant population (they will leave, since most do not qualify under the new rules) and interested new applicants (rules are too severe that other locals or countries are more desirable).  If all the participants leave, and take all of their money with them, imagine the impact on the Malaysia economy.  Imagine how it will impact all of the Malaysia industries that are related to this program (all real estate related companies, travel assistance agencies, etc.).

If we get enough folks to sign this petition, at least it shows/tells the Malaysian government how many folks are at least interested in this program.  We all want a win-win situation here, and it is certainly achievable.

I thank you for reading the petition and hopefully you will not only sign the petition please tell your friends and family to sign too.  Change does not come without some effort and we all love Malaysia and the current MM2H program to want to fight for both.
