Expand UTA to Later Times + Service Areas

The Issue

Goal

UTA should be running some sort of public transport at later hours, at least until 2-3am.

UTA should be implementing more bus stops and trax stations for cities that are more north and south of Salt Lake City, such as Lehi or Layton. Same thing for cities more East and West of I-15 and SLC, such as Herriman and Syracuse

Why it is important

There are many people who work odd hours that do not always fall in the time frames of when UTA operates. They may get to their place of work, but they do not have a way to get back to their home. Alternatives, such as rideshare (Uber, Lyft, etc.), can be extremely and very inconvenient for those who cannot afford it. Rideshare can cost an upwards of $100 or more, depending on the distance and tip. There are really three main forms of public transportation that runs within the UTA network. That would be FrontRunner, Trax, and buses. FrontRunner and some bus routes should still be active until at least 2-3am.

UTA buses and Trax are extremely limited to the areas they service, despite the huge growth of Salt Lake and Utah counties. More bus stops should be included into routes or completely new routes should be implemented in areas like Lehi, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, American Fork, etc. This area really lacks in public transportation when it comes to buses. The next best option for people have who live in areas where UTA GoRide does not service is getting to the closest station or bus stop, then using rideshare or getting a ride.

How it can help

Those who rely on public transportation to commute to their jobs would be much safer. Instead of trying to walk in dark streets for long distances, they can walk shorter distances to a bus stop or train station. It will encourage the usage of public transportation because people will be able to get back home at later times. Usage of public transportation instead of cars can help reduce air pollution and traffic on the roads. Expanding it and running them later would encourage more people to use it. This may also reduce the potential for car accidents and other bad decisions, such as drinking and driving.
