As an individual with two young nieces, I often find myself in a challenging situation when it comes to finding quality toys for their birthdays and Christmas.

In 2022, Toys "R" Us made a triumphant return in the United States just in time for the holiday season by opening 450+ stores nationwide inside of Macy's department stores plus a flagship store at American Dream Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey. But is it enough? Maybe not. In some parts of the country, people don't have access to a Macy's store and kids are certainly not going to wait for their toys to be shipped by mail.

I am starting this petition to urge Smyths Toys Superstores (also known simply as "Smyths") to expand their business to the United States. Smyths is an Irish multinational chain provider of children's toys and entertainment products with 272 shops throughout Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and France. The company has acquired Toys "R" Us stores in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland as of 2019 as well as French toy chain PicWicToys as of 2022. It has also expanded into the Netherlands as of 2023.

Smyths offers a vast selection of toys at affordable prices that cater to all age groups. Their stores are known for their excellent customer service and knowledgeable staff who can help parents find the perfect toy for their child.

With Walmart being notorious for mistreating its employees and other toy stores being too expensive or not offering enough variety in some parts of the country where Macy's isn't present - we need more options!

By expanding their business to the United States market - Smyths will provide parents (and the like) with access to high-quality toys at affordable prices while also creating job opportunities within local communities so that less people are living in poverty. 

Case in point, when Swedish furniture megastore IKEA first expanded to the United States in 1985, they created thousands of jobs for those who needed them, amounting to 219,000 as of 2023. The same could be said about Maine-based sporting goods store chain L.L.Bean. When they first began expanding outside of New England in 2001, they created hundred of jobs for those in need and have employed more than 6,000 people as of 2021. And that is without mentioning that as of 2024, Smyths Toys Superstores has employed more than 3,000 people all throughout Europe.

I urge Smyths Toys Superstores to consider expanding their business into the United States so that we can benefit from their excellent services just like other countries have already done!
