Expand memory for ChatGPT subscribers: More Room for Personalization

Expand memory for ChatGPT subscribers: More Room for Personalization
The Issue
As loyal and paying subscribers of OpenAI's ChatGPT, we value the ability to personalize our experience through retained memory. However, the current memory limitations fall short of allowing us to fully benefit from this incredible tool. We’re calling on OpenAI to expand the memory available to paid members.
To put things in perspective, text data takes up very little storage. A typical Word document containing approximately 174,763 words—more than enough to capture years of personalized interactions—only amounts to about 1 megabyte (MB). Considering this, the current restrictions on memory seem overly conservative, especially given the text-based nature of ChatGPT.
Why This Matters:
1. Enhanced Personalization:
More memory means ChatGPT can remember more about users’ preferences, ongoing projects, and important context. This would lead to better, more tailored interactions, making the service even more valuable.
2. Fair for Paid Subscribers:
As paying users, we believe we should have access to an extensive memory bank that reflects our investment, allowing us to maximize the potential of ChatGPT.
3. Minimal Impact on Resources:
Given that text-based memory requires minimal storage compared to other types of data, this change would be a low-resource improvement with high value for users.
We understand that managing user data responsibly is critical, and we trust OpenAI to implement any necessary safeguards to maintain privacy and data security. However, we believe this enhancement aligns with OpenAI’s mission to provide accessible and user-centric AI solutions.
By signing this petition, we hope to show OpenAI how important this feature is to its community. Together, we can help shape the future of AI-powered tools for the better.
Let’s work together to make ChatGPT even more powerful, personalized, and practical for its dedicated users.
