The Issue

Dear FTC and Decision Makers,

We, a group of former Career Step students, call on you to reevaluate and expand the eligibility criteria under FTC Case No. 1:24-cv-03354. Currently, the settlement provides relief to students enrolled from February 2020 through February 2023. However, many students—including those of us who enrolled later in 2023—have suffered the same misleading practices and program failures.

Our experiences have been marked by:

Deceptive Practices: We enrolled based on promises of high-quality training and support, yet we encountered misleading information and a lack of promised opportunities.
Financial Harm: Despite receiving a partial refund, we are still facing significant debt and negative credit reporting because our enrollment dates narrowly missed the settlement’s cutoff.
Arbitrary Exclusions: The current cutoff date of February 2023 does not reflect the reality of deceptive practices that continued well into 2023, leaving many affected students without proper relief.

We respectfully demand that the FTC:

Extend the settlement protections to cover all Career Step students enrolled in 2023.
Acknowledge that the harmful practices did not simply end in February 2023.
Provide fair and equitable relief to all impacted students, ensuring that arbitrary enrollment dates do not determine whether a student is left with unmanageable debt.

By signing this petition, you stand with us in demanding accountability and fairness from the FTC and the institutions involved. Every signature is a step toward ensuring that no student is penalized due to technicalities when all have been subjected to the same deceptive practices.

Thank you for supporting our cause.

Sincerely,

[Corrisa K ] and Concerned Students
