Expand Free Legal Aid for Immigrants in San Antonio

The Issue

🚨 URGENT: Expand Free Legal Aid for Immigrants in San Antonio 🚨
Thousands of Families Are at Risk—We Must Act NOW!

📢 Why This Petition Matters 📢

Every day, immigrants in San Antonio—many of whom are asylum seekers, DACA recipients, and families facing deportation—struggle to navigate the complex U.S. immigration system without legal representation. The stakes are high: without an attorney, they are five times more likely to be deported, separating families and disrupting lives.

San Antonio must increase funding for free and low-cost immigration legal services through organizations like RAICES, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA), and American Gateways to ensure due process, keep families together, and support our community.

 📊 The Facts 📊
❌ 90% of detained immigrants without lawyers are deported—even when they qualify for legal relief.
❌ Thousands of families in San Antonio live in fear of separation because they cannot afford legal help.
✅ Legal aid increases the chances of success in immigration cases by nearly 500%.
✅ Stronger legal services mean a stronger San Antonio—where immigrants contribute to jobs, taxes, and public safety.

 📜 Our Demands 📜
We are calling on San Antonio City Council and Bexar County Commissioners to:

🔹 Increase city and county funding for organizations that provide free and low-cost immigration legal services.
🔹 Expand legal clinics in underserved areas to help asylum seekers, refugees, and undocumented residents.
🔹 Establish an emergency legal defense fund to prevent unjust deportations.
🔹 Strengthen partnerships with nonprofits and law schools to expand pro bono representation.

🛑 What Happens If We Don’t Act?
🚨 More families will be separated.
🚨 Hardworking immigrants will lose their chance to contribute to our community.
🚨 Injustice will continue—where only those who can afford legal help get a fair shot.

💥 WE CAN CHANGE THIS—but only if we act now!
