The Issue

Hi, my name is Omari Brannen!

As a child, I have always been chasing the arts. It's the most liberating feeling in the world, from getting the shot to perfecting your choreography.  I've been lucky to watch Norwalk's art resist the hands of bad school budgets (Norwalk High Band), country crisis(Lockwood Mansion Crosswalk), and plenty of bad infrastructure choices (CT State). As I recently graduated from Quinnipiac University and came back home. I've found my home has lost its IMAX, and its art is blocked by gentrification.

Game ON.

I want it all back for us and more. A 70mm IMAX theater, along with 3 100-seat capacity theaters to host independent films, short films, and international films.

In Norwalk, there is already the 'Norwalk Art Space'. I don't want to take from this; I want to expand upon this. I believe that TNAS carries values & traditions that need more room and more love; located off Exit 15, TNAS isn't prepped for what Norwalk is becoming. We need a Haven, a MoMA to grow and give growing artists the space to showcase their work and proclaim themselves. A place for artists to meet art lovers in the commuter state.

I've watched people travel hours for metaphors, I've watched my friends create in their Norwalkian basement. I know what people this place holds. So this is why I'm asking you to sign and share this.

  •  Artists will be able to sign up and reserve spots as they are open to showcase their work through the gallery. Also, marking dates when they are explaining their art. Marking their freedom to hold their work.
  • We would love to host the Norwalk Film Festival, as film talent is ever-growing, and larger theaters are needed.
  • Dance studios/Theater/and Bands
  • Offer volunteer classes in the arts
  • Hosting film and production classes for participating schools
  • Live performances and Showcases
  • Learning taxes classes (just a bit of life)
  • Hosting Norwalk's finest food, restaurants, and cooks.
  • Allowing vendors to find solace in selling their art under vendor licenses.
  • 70mm IMAX Theater (Blockbusters), along with 3-4 theaters to host Non-blockbuster films! (Yes, you still gotta go to AMC or Cinemark or Avon)
  • Bar, food, and vending for theaters.
  • Steer MTA out of the lot after disapproval from residents.

This comes with things that need to be done.

  • The factory on Norden Place needs a cleanup for the neighborhood. First and foremost.
  • Soundproofing, this building is close to a highway, but with respect for the residential area.
  • Raising Awareness and spreading the news about this project so we can gauge the energy.
  • Asking/to address any concerns & questions about even the smallest of planning/preparedness.
  • Presenting clear communication to the people of Norwalk and the State of CT.
  • Gather the support of IMAX to host a 70mm projector in a client-heavy location!
  • Raise money... jinkies!

I believe art always needs roots. This petition hopes you do too.

Love,

Omari
