The Issue

As a Mental Health professional with a PhD & Doctorate in Integrative Medicine, I am deeply passionate about promoting holistic health and well-being for all individuals. However, I am currently facing a significant barrier that prevents me from practicing the NADA protocol, an effective ear acupressure and acupuncture intervention for trauma, substance misuse, abuse, dependence, and related behavioral and mental health conditions.

Despite completing extensive training with a trainer who is a Doctor of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine approved through the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA), myself and other medical and mental health professionals have been unable to practice acupuncture needling using the Acudetox/NADA 5-point protocol that we have trained in due to restrictive laws in California. This not only limits my ability to provide comprehensive care but also denies countless individuals access to this evidence-based treatment option.  NADA's vision statement is to create a world where healthcare is people-centered, holistic, and accessible to the most vulnerable and underserved in our communities.  Nada website:

It is also now listed as a Best Practice by IHS:
https://www.ihs.gov/mspi/bppinuse/treatmentbp/

The NADA protocol has been proven effective in numerous studies conducted worldwide. It is recognized by organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) as an essential component of integrative healthcare approaches. The protocol's non-invasive nature makes it accessible even for those who may be hesitant or unable to undergo traditional acupuncture treatments.

Currently, only licensed Acupuncturists, MDs, and dentists are permitted to perform acupuncture procedures in California. While these professionals undoubtedly possess valuable skills and expertise within their respective fields, it is crucial that we recognize the unique contributions that trained Acudetox professionals can bring to our communities.

By expanding California's laws related to acupuncture practice, we can ensure that more individuals have access to safe and effective holistic healthcare options. Allowing qualified professionals who have completed rigorous training programs like the NADA Protocol Training with approved trainers will not only enhance patient care but also alleviate some of the burden on already overwhelmed healthcare systems.

Moreover, broadening access will address critical gaps in mental health services across our state. With rising rates of trauma-related disorders and substance misuse issues affecting communities at an alarming rate, it is imperative that we empower professionals who are equipped with the necessary skills to provide effective interventions.

I urge the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association and relevant authorities in California to recognize the value of Acudetox professionals and advocate for legislative changes that allow us to practice needling within our scope of training. By doing so, we can ensure that holistic health becomes a right accessible to all communities, regardless of their socioeconomic status or geographic location.

Together, let us work towards a future where comprehensive care is readily available, empowering individuals on their journey towards healing and well-being.  Acupuncture detox treatment has proven effective with many populations: https://acudetox.com/resources/articles/.  Join me in signing this petition to expand access to who can provide acupuncture via the Auricular therapy setup called NADA Protocol/Acudetox.  NADA has created standards that must be met to achieve the ADS credential.  Acudetox professionals who are not licensed acupuncturists  should be recognized and allowed to practice in California!  Immediate action is needed so that greater access can be available for those experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and also to help provide greater response for communities that have experienced natural disasters throughout California by increasing the availability of Acudetox protocol in our communities throughout the state.

LET'S MAKE EAR ACUPUNCTURE MORE ACCESSIBLE for our communities!

We call on the California Legislature to provide communities with greater access to vital healthcare and healing tools, such as ear acupuncture/auriculotherapy.

We call on the California Legislature for a housekeeping bill to expand the current Laws And Regulations Relating To The Practice Of Acupuncture.  Specifically, that statute 4927.5 add the option of NADA/Acudetox Protocol as a route to be accepted under Auriculotherapy training & that statute 4935d be expanded to include use of NADA/Acudetox Protocol by those who have received a certificate in this 5-point protocol.

What is ear acupuncture?
Ear acupuncture is a very safe, minimally invasive intervention that supports your body's own ability to heal.

Ear acupuncture can reduce cravings, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and pain. It can be used to support stress relief and ease symptoms of PTSD.

Expanding access to ear acupuncture is also crucial with rising rates of addiction and with the increased demand for mental health support.

The ear acupuncture protocol was used historically for community health in underserved communities. Ear acupuncture has a long history of being used in a range of settings, including addiction recovery, and veterans services. It can be a powerful tool in addressing both the opiate crisis currently ravaging California, and the stress and increased mental health burden of today's stressors.

Help us make ear acupuncture more accessible to all the people of California by signing this petition!

I appreciate your support
