Exonerate Montserrat Pineda from frivolous assault charges
Exonerate Montserrat Pineda from frivolous assault charges
The Issue
Montserrat Pineda, fondly known as Montse, is not just a dear friend, but a shining light in our community. Diagnosed with autism and also having a mental handicap with a low IQ, Montse, a first generation American, faces unique challenges every day with remarkable tenacity and grace. She is known for her kindness, hard work, and her inspiring dedication to making our community a better place. Her contributions to our town, especially through her delicious dog treats that support Autism, have made an indelible impact on everyone who knows her.
Recently, Montse was charged with assault for a misunderstanding where she threw water on an individual. What has been overlooked is the fact that this individual was mocking, teasing, and picking on Montse, targeting her based on her disabilities. This hateful act, in itself, is a form of a hate crime against a disabled person—a serious matter that should not be brushed aside to unjustly blame and penalize the victim.
Given Montse's mental capacity and the circumstances that led to this so-called assault, it is clear that the charges filed against her are not only frivolous but also discriminatory. It is essential to understand the context of the situation and recognize the actions that prompted Montse’s response. Montse is being discriminated against for her autism, mental handicap, as well as her Mexican descent.
We must stand together to urge the legal authorities to immediately exonerate Montserrat Pineda from these unjust charges. In the eyes of justice, it is not just the actions but the intent and circumstances that should be weighed. We must call for empathy, understanding, and fairness.
By signing this petition, we hope to bring attention to this grave injustice and advocate for the protection of individuals with mental and developmental disabilities from similar situations in the future. Let us support Montse and ensure her story is heard and acknowledged.
Please sign this petition to demand justice for Montserrat Pineda and help protect vulnerable members of our community.
