The Issue

I am a homeowner in Gwinnett County, GA who has worked tirelessly to maintain my home even during the harshest economic recessions. For over two decades, I have dutifully paid my property taxes. Now that I've reached my golden years with a diminished income, the threat of losing something I've owned for over 20 years due to inability to pay taxes looms large.

It is not just me facing this predicament; there are many others like me in our county. We believe it's time for a change.

Property taxes can be burdensome for older homeowners on fixed incomes. According to the U.S Census Bureau, 33% of Americans aged 65 and older own their homes free and clear but still face financial strain due to property tax obligations (source: U.S Census Bureau).

We propose that Gwinnett County should exempt homeowners who have been paying property taxes for ten years or more and have reached the age of 55 from further property tax obligations. This policy would provide much-needed relief for long-term homeowners entering retirement age.

This is not an unprecedented move; several states across America already offer some form of property tax relief or exemption based on age or income (source: National Conference of State Legislatures).

By signing this petition, you're supporting long-term homeowners like us who have contributed significantly to our community's growth and stability over the years but now find ourselves struggling with diminishing incomes in our later years.

Please sign this petition urging Gwinnett County officials to consider implementing this policy change. Let's ensure that no one has to fear losing their home because they've grown old!
