Construction, development and renovation of infrastructure doesn't have to mean the reduction of urban canopies or the death knoll for our trees. 
Water supply, flood reduction, air quality improvement and carbon sequestration are all benefits people derive from an urban forest ecosystem. We need to be setting ambitious canopy expansion targets, not diminishing them. It is possible as demonstrated in this photo, to accomodate our trees, not kill them to be replaced by concrete or asphalt infrastructure.
