Every Soul in the UK Deserves a Home — Make Housing a Guaranteed Legal Birthright

The Issue

This petition calls for a legal Birthright to housing. The Birthright applies from the day it becomes law. It does not apply to the past, only to the future.

EVERY CHILD BORN in the United Kingdom should begin life with one unshakeable promise: you will never be without a home. Not once. Not ever.

Homelessness is not a personal failure. It is a failure of systems, duty, and political will. We live in a nation where

  • children grow up in temporary accommodation,
  • women are ceaselessly at risk, warehoused into mixed-sex temporary shelter, hotels, B&B's,
  • families are uprooted again and again,
  • and adults carry the constant fear of losing the roof over their heads.

No society that calls itself fair or decent can accept this.

AT POINT OF NEED - We are calling for a cradle-to-grave housing guarantee for every citizen of the UK— a permanent national duty to ensure every person has a safe, secure home throughout their life. Not as charity. Not as luck. Not as a postcode lottery. As a Birthright.

To make this guarantee real — not symbolic, not optional, not something that can be quietly ignored — we propose a simple safeguard: a Home Advantage Number (HA-NAME-DOB-XXXXXXXXX).

This number is not the reform itself. It is the mechanism that ensures the reform is honoured. It is the administrative anchor that prevents people from falling through cracks, loopholes, or bureaucratic neglect.

A cradle-to-grave housing guarantee actioned at point of need backed by a Home Advantage Number means:

· no child grows up in fear of homelessness

· no family is left to navigate crisis alone

· no elder is abandoned in their final years

· no life is treated as disposable

This guarantee applies within the United Kingdom . In future if a UK citizen becomes homeless abroad and returns home, the guarantee ensures they are not left without a home here. This is how national duties work everywhere: a country must never abandon its own people.

Add your name if you believe no child born in UK should ever face homelessness — and that every one of us deserves the security of a home throughout our lives.
