Dear supporters,

I have some wonderful news to share.

The ABC has just announced it will launch a significant expansion of Auslan-interpreted preschool content on iView, meaning some of Australia’s most loved children’s shows will be accessible to Deaf children and families who use Auslan from April 13.

This is a huge step forward for inclusion in Australian children’s media.

When we started this petition, the goal was simple: kids who use Auslan should be able to access the same beloved TV programs as every Australian child. For too long, Deaf and hard of hearing kids have been left out.

But not any more. Thousands of people like you signed and shared this petition, and the ABC has listened. Today is a moment to celebrate.

Thank you for helping make this happen.

And thank you to the ABC and to Ludo Studio for taking action. Shows like Bluey mean so much to children across Australia. Now Deaf children and their families can share in that joy too. As Bluey herself might say: “For real life?”

Yes. For real life.

Of course, this is only the beginning. We will continue advocating for:

  • More Auslan-accessible children’s programming
  • Broader accessibility across the ABC and other broadcasters
  • A media landscape where the language and culture of the Deaf community are visible and celebrated on screen

Now it’s your turn. Which ABC shows you would like Auslan interpreted? Help the ABC plan future Auslan content releases by submitting a request for a program on iView here.

Onward,
James Wright
