I am a citizen of the European Union. I am not a politician or a Middle East expert, and I do not claim to speak on behalf of the people in Gaza or Israel.

Each of these children had a name. Every destroyed house was once a home. The war in Gaza is not an abstract debate - it is a daily nightmare for millions of people.

The ongoing war has taken the lives of tens of thousands of civilians, displaced millions, and thrown an entire region into chaos. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is catastrophic and worsening by the day.

Europe has not only contributed through historical decisions but also through current arms cooperation and diplomatic complacency. It is time for Europe to stop watching and start acting.

I urge the European Parliament to consider two peaceful, non-military solutions that can be pursued in parallel and do not exclude each other. The goal is to offer people in Gaza the freedom to choose, security, and prospects for the future - whether inside or outside of Gaza.

Option 1: Gaza as a sovereign Palestinian state

• Recognition of Gaza as an independent state within the two-state framework
• Peace agreement between Palestine and Israel with mutual security guarantees
• Internationally monitored demilitarization of Gaza and protection of civilians
• Reconstruction support from Israel, Germany, the UK, the EU, and other historically or currently responsible nations
• Establishment of a democratic system under UN or EU supervision, with free elections, guaranteed rights, and international assistance

Option 2: Voluntary departure with right of return

• Safe, voluntary departure for Palestinians who wish to leave Gaza temporarily or permanently
• International support for shelter, integration, education, and healthcare in host countries
• Right of return guaranteed by international law and supported by monitored protection
• No forced displacement - only real, dignified choice

Both options are compatible
These two options can be pursued in parallel. Not all people want or are able to leave Gaza. Not all feel safe in a newly emerging state. A just solution must reflect the diverse realities, fears, and hopes of the affected people. We need differentiated responses rather than military one-size-fits-all solutions.

I appeal to the European Parliament and the governments of Europe:
Take responsibility. Create political space for peaceful solutions. Prevent further suffering.

A just peace begins with the courage to act differently. Europe must show that courage now.
We cannot bring the dead back to life - but we can give the living hope.

Jedes einzelne dieser Kinder hatte einen Namen. Jedes zerstörte Haus war ein Zuhause. Der Krieg in Gaza ist keine abstrakte Debatte - er ist ein täglicher Albtraum für Millionen von Menschen.

Der andauernde Krieg hat zehntausende Zivilist:innen das Leben gekostet, Millionen Menschen vertrieben und eine gesamte Region ins Chaos gestürzt. Die humanitäre Lage in Gaza ist katastrophal - und sie verschärft sich täglich.

Europa hat nicht nur durch historische Entscheidungen mitgewirkt, sondern auch durch gegenwärtige Rüstungskooperationen und diplomatische Rücksichtslosigkeit. Es ist Zeit, dass Europa nicht länger nur zuschaut, sondern handelt.

Ich fordere das Europäische Parlament auf, zwei friedliche, nicht-militärische Lösungsansätze zu prüfen, die sich nicht gegenseitig ausschließen, sondern ergänzen können. Ziel ist es, den betroffenen Menschen Wahlfreiheit, Sicherheit und Zukunftsperspektiven zu ermöglichen - sei es in Gaza oder außerhalb.

Option 1: Gaza als souveräner palästinensischer Staat

• Anerkennung Gazas als eigenständiger Staat im Rahmen eines Zwei-Staaten-Prinzips
• Abschluss eines Friedensvertrags zwischen Palästina und Israel mit gegenseitigen Sicherheitsgarantien
• International überwachte Demilitarisierung Gazas und Schutz der Zivilbevölkerung
• Wiederaufbauhilfe durch Israel, Deutschland, Großbritannien, die EU und weitere Staaten, die historisch und aktuell Verantwortung tragen
• Aufbau eines demokratischen Systems unter UN- oder EU-Aufsicht, mit freien Wahlen, garantierten Grundrechten und internationalem Beistand

Option 2: Freiwillige Ausreise mit Rückkehrrecht

• Sichere, freiwillige Ausreise für Palästinenser:innen, die Gaza dauerhaft oder vorübergehend verlassen möchten
• Internationale Unterstützung bei Unterbringung, Integration, Bildung und Gesundheitsversorgung in aufnehmenden Ländern
• Rückkehrrecht garantiert durch völkerrechtliche Prinzipien und international überwachte Schutzmaßnahmen
• Kein Zwang, keine Vertreibung - sondern echte, menschenwürdige Wahlfreiheit

Beide Wege schließen sich nicht aus
Diese beiden Optionen können parallel verfolgt und kombiniert werden. Nicht alle Menschen wollen oder können Gaza verlassen. Nicht alle fühlen sich in einem entstehenden Staat sicher. Eine gerechte Lösung muss den verschiedenen Lebenslagen, Ängsten und Hoffnungen der Menschen gerecht werden. Es braucht differenzierte Antworten statt militärischer Pauschallösungen.

Ich appelliere an das Europäische Parlament und die Regierungen Europas: Nehmt eure Verantwortung wahr. Schafft politische Handlungsspielräume für friedliche Lösungen. Verhindert weiteres Leid.

Ein gerechter Friede beginnt mit dem Mut, anders zu handeln. Europa muss diesen Mut jetzt zeigen.
Niemand kann den Toten das Leben zurückgeben – aber wir können den Lebenden Hoffnung schenken.
