EU-Armenia Relations: Call for Non-Interference
The Issue
Armenia-European Union relations have long been, and must remain, a fundamental pillar of Armenia’s foreign policy. However, there is a growing and troubling perception that the current Armenian authorities are less interested in the substantive depth of this partnership than they are in instrumentalizing European political support for their own domestic ends.
We are deeply concerned that recent rhetoric from EU executive officials has only reinforced fears regarding undue interference in Armenia’s internal affairs.
We reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the continued growth of the Armenia-EU partnership—one firmly rooted in the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), our shared values, and our collective history. It is vital that these relations are shielded from domestic political exploitation and kept out of the crossfire of broader geopolitical rivalries. The framework of CEPA provides the ideal roadmap for such a principled and balanced approach.
Therefore, we urge all actors to refrain from interference in Armenia’s domestic political affairs and to contribute instead to the preservation of a democratic environment conducive to free, fair, transparent, and competitive elections.
