ESUSD: Request equal transportation access from Bridgeport to Lee Vining High School!

ESUSD: Request equal transportation access from Bridgeport to Lee Vining High School!
The Issue
We are parents and community members across Mono County asking ESUSD to treat all students fairly and consistently.
Right now, Bridgeport Highschool students are being denied practical district transportation access to Lee Vining High School (LVHS).
ESUSD provides transportation for every LVHS-area community except Bridgeport, even though current district policies (including AR 3541) set transportation eligibility standards that should be applied non-selectively and non-discriminatorily.
Many working families have no realistic alternative because there is no public transportation.
This issue is already under an active California Department of Education UCP 60-Day Referral dated January 29, 2026, and yet the district is proposing boundary/attendance and transportation policy changes to be approved by the Board at the meeting this Wednesday, February 18th. Making these changes during a pending investigation would further limit Bridgeport students’ access to LVHS.
Bridgeport has a high concentration of students from different ethnic backgrounds, so unequal access raises serious equity concerns and potential disparate impact.
We respectfully request that ESUSD:
(1) reinstate transportation from Bridgeport to LVHS consistent with AR 3541 in a non-discriminatory, non-selective manner;
(2) do not change the current LVHS attendance boundaries, which—per the LVHS site plan (previously posted on the district website)—include service to Bridgeport;
(3) do not change current transportation routes/services policies (including BP 3540 – Transportation and AR 3541 – Transportation Routes and Services) in any way that would reduce or eliminate Bridgeport students’ eligibility; and
(4) do not change attendance boundary, intradistrict transfer/open enrollment, or any transportation-related policies in a manner that would affect student eligibility for transportation, including BP 5116 – School Attendance Boundaries, BP 5116.1 – Intradistrict Open Enrollment, BP 5111 – Admission, BP 3540 – Transportation, and AR 3541 – Transportation Routes and Services, and ensure all policies are applied consistently and nondiscriminatorily across communities.
Bridgeport students deserve equal access like every other community. We’re a small rural county—let’s stand together.
Board members, please represent your communities and do what’s right for our students.
Thank you,
On behalf of Bridgeport families and Highschool students.
UPDATE:
The Board has revised the agenda. The previously listed tranportation policy changes are now marked as "discussion only" (no action), and the meeting has been moved to March 03rd at 6pm . If anyone would like to watch it, the meeting will be held via Zoom - Meeting ID: 587-430-2020. (view only) Public Comments are only available in person. The meeting is held at the District Office in Bridgeport.
This means the public will be able to express their opinions for consideration before any decisions are made. We are hopeful the Board will carefully consider the strong input from our community and the impact on our students' access to education.
Thank you all for your continued support. Lets keep advocating respectfully so that Brideport students can secure fair and reliable transportation!
