OEGSR, the Office for Essential Goods and Services Regulation, proposes a new parliamentary act to regulate the prices of essential goods and services such as food, energy, water, medicines, internet access, phone plans, public transport, and basic hygiene items. The creation of this office would be a vital step towards guaranteeing fairer and more affordable prices for everyone.

This new office would have the authority to set limits on profit margins for essential goods and services, and intervene in cases of price gouging or unfair market behavior. By monitoring and regulating these markets, it will ensure that essentials remain attainable for every citizen, preventing families from having to choose between necessities.

Historical data and numerous reports indicate that unchecked profiteering in essential sectors not only leads to economic inequality but also deeply affects public health and well-being. According to a report by Oxfam, the wealthiest 1% have accumulated twice as much wealth as 6.9 billion people combined, highlighting the disparities aggravated by unequal access to essential goods and services.

Implementing OEGSR would mean establishing a transparent review and accountability system, where consumers can submit complaints about unfair pricing practices. This office would collaborate with existing consumer protection and regulatory bodies to strengthen the enforcement of fair pricing laws.

Introducing such regulatory measures ensures that no family is left behind due to exploitative financial demands or market practices. We cannot afford to stand by while essential goods become luxury items only a few can reach.
