The Issue

In recent years, a significant number of people have chosen Hamilton as their home, enticed by its proximity to Toronto and its more affordable housing options and amenities. As our community continues to grow, so too does our need for greater connectivity, especially to major centers like Ottawa. However, despite the burgeoning population and increasing demand, there remains a glaring lack of direct flight options from Hamilton to our nation's capital.

According to the 2021 Canadian Census, Hamilton's population was registered at 569,353, an impressive rise from the 536,917 documented in 2016. Moreover, recent estimates from the World Population Review suggest that the current population is already 596,707, evidencing our city’s rapid growth trajectory. This momentum underscores the urgent need to better integrate Hamilton into Canada's broader network of cities through direct flights.

The existing travel options between Hamilton and Ottawa are neither efficient nor convenient, often requiring time-consuming drives to Toronto Pearson International Airport or indirect flights with layovers, further burdening travelers with longer travel times and added stress.

By establishing direct flights from Hamilton to Ottawa, we can significantly reduce travel time, provide better accessibility, and promote economic and cultural exchanges between these two vital regions. Not only will this benefit the city's residents by offering convenient access to the political heart of Canada, but it will also attract business travelers, stimulate local tourism, and foster economic growth.

We call upon local governments, airport authorities, and airlines to recognize the strategic importance of this route and take action to introduce direct flights between Hamilton and Ottawa. Join us in emphasizing the need for better connectivity and support the case for this vital service by signing this petition today.
