This Is No Longer an Idea. It’s Happening.
Since launching this petition, we’ve had conversations with dozens of people across Welland’s arts and creative community artists, photographers, painters, sculptors, illustrators, textile and fibre artists, digital creators, filmmakers, designers, writers, educators, musicians, and arts supporters. We’ve connected with independent artists, community groups, cultural organizations, educators, and residents who all shared the same message: Welland needs a dedicated, permanent art gallery.
Those conversations mattered. They shaped what came next.
Today, I’m proud to share a major milestone.
The Art Gallery of Welland is now an incorporated non profit organization in Ontario and a federally registered charitable organization in Canada.
That matters.
This is no longer a concept or a proposal. It is a recognized public charity with the ability to fundraise, apply for grants, deliver programming, and build toward a permanent art gallery for Welland, not a retail outlet.
Here’s what has happened since this petition began:
• The Art Gallery of Welland has been formally established as a charitable organization
• A governance structure is in place to ensure transparency and accountability
• Public programming is underway
• Our first major fundraising event is scheduled for April
• Community partnerships and artist participation continue to grow
• A permanent gallery space remains the long term goal
We do not yet have a physical building, and that is intentional. Strong cultural institutions are built on foundations, not rushed into walls. Charitable status was a critical step before bricks and mortar.
What’s important now is this:
Things are moving quickly.
Events, programming, and announcements are no longer theoretical. They are active, scheduled, and developing in real time. If you supported this petition, now is the moment to stay connected.
